CitizenIQ

Cookie Policy

Last updated: April 8, 2026

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember information about your visit, such as your login status. CitizenIQ uses a minimal set of cookies — those strictly necessary for the service to function, plus one functional cookie for error monitoring.

2. Cookies We Use

Authentication Cookies (Supabase)

Strictly necessary · Session or up to 7 days

When you sign in, Supabase sets cookies prefixed with sb- to maintain your authenticated session. These cookies contain a secure session token — never your password or personal data. They are required for you to stay signed in. They are cleared automatically when you sign out or expire after a period of inactivity.

Payment Cookies (Stripe)

Strictly necessary · Session-only

When you click "Get CitizenIQ Pro," you are redirected to a Stripe-hosted checkout page. Stripe sets short-lived cookies to secure the payment session and prevent fraud. These cookies are set and managed entirely by Stripe, expire when checkout completes or is abandoned, and are never used for tracking or advertising.

Error Monitoring (Sentry)

Functional (not strictly necessary) · Session

Sentry sets a session identifier to correlate error reports from the same browser session. This cookie is functional, not strictly necessary — the site works without it, but we use it to detect and fix bugs. Sentry collects your IP address, browser type, and page URL when an error occurs. Error data is routed through our own domain (citizeniq.app/monitoring) before reaching Sentry's servers. This data is not used to track your behavior or build a profile of you.

3. What We Do Not Use

We do not use:

  • Advertising or retargeting cookies
  • Third-party analytics cookies (e.g. Google Analytics)
  • Social media tracking pixels
  • Cookies that track your behavior across other websites

4. Local Storage

In addition to cookies, CitizenIQ stores your study progress (quiz history, XP, streaks, settings) in your browser's localStorage. This data is stored only on your device and is not a cookie. It persists until you clear your browser data or explicitly reset your progress in the app. When you are signed in, this progress is also synced to our database so it is available across devices.

5. Managing Cookies

Authentication and payment cookies are strictly necessary — blocking them will prevent sign-in or checkout from working. The Sentry error monitoring cookie is functional and can be blocked without affecting your use of CitizenIQ. You can manage cookies through your browser settings:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy
  • Firefox: Preferences → Privacy & Security

To delete your CitizenIQ session, simply sign out of the app — this clears the authentication cookies automatically.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy if we add new third-party services or change how cookies are used. We will update the date at the top of this page when changes occur.
